SKILL VALUE

The modified frog kick is a streamlined version of the traditional frog kick, with smaller, more controlled movements. It provides efficient propulsion while minimizing disturbance to the environment, making it ideal for technical dives, such as cave and wreck diving, where silt or debris can affect visibility.

Usefull at:

Long dives to conserve energy with efficient, low-effort propulsion.

Technical diving in caves or wrecks where minimal environmental disturbance is key.

Silt-heavy environments, preventing stirring up debris that could reduce visibility.

Trim control in open water, maintaining horizontal position while moving forward.

Learn How to

Focus on a wide leg motion, extending the legs out and pulling them back together.

Maintain your knees bent and fins parallel to the ground for maximum efficiency.

Practice the push and glide technique to maximize propulsion with each kick.

Combine with good buoyancy control to stay in horizontal trim throughout the kick.

01

Put your legs together. Easiest way to check this is to feel if your knees are touching eachother. Your upper legs should be in one line with your upper body. That gives you a stable platform to dive from. Your ankles should be 90° and the fins in the line of the direction you are moving.

02

Turn your Ankles to the outside and bend your knees slightly to the outside. This will put your fin blades in an exposed position with the water.
Once positioned then kick with both legs at the same time. Strenghten your legs by doing this and streck your ankles.

03

With your legs and fins nearly straight enjoy the gliding of your kick and don`t do anything until the gliding slows down.
This is a good point now as well to check your buoyancy.

04

Once the gliding slows down, bring your legs back to the original position (1) by bending your knees and bring your ankles back to 90°

05

Now again start to turn your ankles and knees to the outside

06

Once the fin blades are positioned against the water kick with both legs again.

07

And then enjoy the gliding in a streamlined and relaxed position.

08

After the gliding phase go back to the original position and start again.
