The 360° vertical turn enables you to rotate around your vertical axis, allowing you to look above or below without changing your horizontal position. This technique is particularly helpful for feeling comfortable in all orientations. Combined with the lateral turn it can be a tool to rotate super fast 180°

Feeling comfortable in all orientations in the water.

Observing the water column above and below without moving forward.

Vertical navigation in open water to ensure all-around awareness.

Ensuring clear ascent/descent paths when diving near structures or objects.

Learn How to

Use the modified flutter kick to rotate your body vertically.

Keep your trim stable as you rotate through the vertical axis by adjusting your lung volume.

Practice maintaining buoyancy control to avoid unintended ascent or descent.

Try to orient yourself on a straight line on the bottom of a pool or a remarkable spot in the open water.

For the rotation use the Modified Flutter Kick. With this you are getting the best control over the Turn. Take visual Reference from the sourounding.

When head down breath in  to compensate for the lower lung and wing volume.

Try to rotate around your body center and keep an eye on your buoyancy control.

When head up breath out to hold your depth level.

Once rotated compare with the visual reference to check if you rotated in a straight line. And have fun practicing this skill :)

Example

You can perform a 360° Vertical Turn as well in the reverse direction. Instead of using the Modified Flutter Kick you just have to use the Back Kick and of course pratice.
